February’s edition of Cake Bag included lots of great products to use for an array of cake decorating!
With the theme “Buttercream Dreams” the products inside are great for creating a cake covered in buttercream. You can use the pallet knife to coat your cakes in buttercream then create the finishing touches using the PME tall side scraper to give your cake a pretty pattern. Use the piping bag to create little buttercream swirls on top and for the finishing touch; sprinkle over the PME multi coloured non-pareils. Perfect tools to give a really professional finish to your cakes and bakes!
There were also a couple of items that are perfect for creating pretty cake decorations; Smartflex velvet sugar paste.
And Sugarflair Superwhite paint powder.
This stuff is great for making buttercream a whiter shade, but I love using it as a paint mixed with a little clear alcohol or rejuvenator fluid – so in this post; I thought I’d share how I use it to create pretty chalkboard cake decorations!
I took some of the sugar paste and used sugarflair black extra to colour it.
Rolled it out to about 1-2mm thickness and used a round cookie cutter to cut out circles big enough to pop on top of cupcakes.
Pop the superwhite powder onto a pallet and mix in a little clear alcohol to create a paint. Then, using a small fine paintbrush, paint some words, messages and designs onto the sugar discs.
I chose to write love surrounded by a laurel frame.
And for this dream design, I used a couple of my smaller star cutters to stamp the stars onto the surface of the disc and used them as a guide to paint the designs on top.
I also thought make a wish would be perfect for birthday cupcakes! There’s really no limit to what messages you could add to these; which makes them perfect for any celebration!
They look really effective, for something so easy and simple to achieve, using so few products. You could even decorate a large cake with a beautiful chalkboard design or message. Plus cookies would also looking amazing!
We hope you enjoy this tutorial and that it sparks some ideas of how you can use the products included inside this edition.
We would love to see all your creations, so don’t forget to share with us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter using the #cakebagcreations tag.
