The Magical Mermaid edition of Cake Bag has been so popular it sold out in only a couple of days!
We’ve loved the cake bag creations you’ve shared with us so far, which you can see on our social media: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!
Lot’s of your cakes have been decorated with the Katy Sue Designs Sugar Buttons little mermaid mould and it’s been lovely seeing how you use this to adorn your cakes!
A couple of the other items you will have received are some products from Sugarflair colours; Pastel gel food colouring paste in Jade and edible lustre in Platinum.
These are perfect for colouring sugar pastes, fondant icing and buttercream and they are also great for painting patterns onto your cakes and bakes!
In this tutorial; I’m going to show you how to paint mermaid scales onto macarons!
All you will need is your favourite macaron recipe, to bake up a batch of these delicious treats, or you can find some equally delicious macarons in the chiller section of any good supermarket!
You will also need a small, fine paintbrush and some white, clear alcohol to mix with the lustre dust to make a paint.
First mix up the lustre and clear alcohol and then simply paint your design on the macarons.
I used silver on the pink which looks really pretty.
Add some of the Jade gel food colouring to the lustre paint mix to make an iridescent Jade colour and paint your other macarons; I used this colour on my green ones!
I added more lustre to the paint to lighten it for the yellow macarons.
As you can see, you can get some great variations of colour when you add more lustre and this gives more of a magical sheen to the finished design.
Perfect to serve alongside a cake, cupcakes and cookies at any mermaid themed party! They would look beautiful presented on a sweet buffet table!
We hope this gives you more ideas on how you can use the products in this months cake bag. Please continue to share your bakes with us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter using the hashtag #cakebagcreations!
