Mermaid Mould Tutorial

1st April 2018

April’s Magical Mermaids Cake Bag is here! It includes lot’s of beautiful under the sea themed products including this Mermaid mould by Katy Sue Designs.

It’s so easy to use! Simply dust the mould with a little cornflour or a spray of non-stick cooking spray.

Colour some sugar modelling paste to a flesh colour; I used peach by Sugarflair from their gel food colouring range. Then take a piece of the sugar modelling paste that’s about the size of a golf ball.

Press and spread the sugar modelling paste into the mould.

You can use a modelling tool to push right into the narrow areas of the mould.

Flip the mould over and peel back to release the design.

Paint a little edible glue into the eye sockets.

Take a couple of tiny pieces of white sugar modelling paste and roll into balls, then place in the eyes.

Use food colouring or edible petal dust mixed with a little white alcohol to paint the eye colour.

Use an edible pen to add the pupils of the eyes and add detail around the eyes if desired.

Make the nose and add the details once attached to her face.

You can use edible lustre and petal dusts mixed with a little white alcohol to paint the hair.

Then use a range of different colours for her bikini & tail.

Use a small fluffy brush, dipped in a little dusky pink petal dust, to add blush to her cheeks.

And you have one easy to make Mermaid to use as a cake topper or decoration for all your cakes, cupcakes and cookies!

You can paint the details using any colours you desire!
