Patterned buttercream celebration cake

12th March 2019

February’s cake bag included some fabulous cake decorating products for creating beautiful buttercream bakes!

I used the sugarpaste and Sugar Flair super white powder paint in my last post for these Chalkboard Cupcake toppers.

So wanted to show you how I used the rest of the products to create this simple celebration cake!

You will have received a lucky dip from a selection of PME tall patterned edge side scrapers that included stripe, pleat, ribbed and scallop.

Plus a PME angled blade pallet knife; which is perfect for spreading buttercream over your cakes before smoothing off.

To decorate this cake you will need to bake your favourite cake and make a batch of buttercream coloured with a gel food colouring, I used pink!

Then once you’ve mixed your buttercream to a soft and smooth consistency, use the pallet knife to fill, layer up and cover your cake.

Place your cake on a turntable and press the patterned side scraper against the side of the cake. Spin the turntable whilst continually pressing the side scraper until you see the pattern form, then remove the scraper.

Use the pallet knife to tidy the top of the cake.

You should have some leftover buttercream, so give it a whip in a freestanding mixer or in bowl using a handheld whisk to make sure it’s nice and soft. Place in the re-usable piping bag (also included in February’s cake bag) that’s fitted with a medium star nozzle.

Pipe little swirls on top of the cake.

Sprinkle the 100s n 1000s, you received in your bag, over the surface of the cake.

Then you can top with any additional decorations that take your fancy! I opted to pop candles on top of my buttercream swirls!

And voila! A perfectly buttercreamed cake perfect for any celebration!

We would love to see your buttercream cakes using the patterned side scraper; so please share with us on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter using the #cakebagcreations tag!

You will also be excited to know we are including a set of Easter themed Sweet Stamps from Amy Cakes in the March “Easter Fun” edition!
