March is here along with an exciting cake bag theme; Under the Sea, which includes a range of lovely ocean themed goodies including this Ellam Sugarcraft seahorse and shells mould.
You can use this to create beautiful decorations to adorn cupcakes, cookies & large cakes with a seaside theme.
I’m going to show you how to use the scallop shape to create a shell that contains a sugar pearl.
To make these, you will need:
sugar modelling paste
pearlescent edible lustre dusts in Ivory & gold
Ball modelling tool
Lightly dust the mould with cornflour and take a small amount of sugar modelling paste and place in the shell indentation
Press the modelling paste into the mould to spread right to the edges of the design
Use a ball modelling tool to press an indentation into the shell
Carefully remove the shell from the mould
Use a fanned paintbrush to dust ivory lustre dust all over the shells and a fine paintbrush to paint gold lustre dust lines onto the shells
Roll out a small length of modelling paste and glue in place at the narrow end of the shell then add some glue to the top and attach another shell on top then pinch slightly to create an open clam shell
Dab a dot of edible glue inside the bottom shell and place a pearl sprinkle inside
You can add these to any under the sea themed cakes along with light brown soft sugar to create the sand like this:
As you can see, you can create a lovely scene with a cake topper and it looks really effective!
You can also create mermaid cakes with shells adorning the top, edge and bottom of your cakes and use on the cake board:
