As the festive season is in full swing, with preparations for Christmas Day underway, I thought it would also be a good idea to share a fun tutorial using one of the products included in this months Gin & Cake edition of Cake Bag; to create some super sparkly cupcake toppers for New Years Eve!
One of the products included is this little pot of SuPearl Shine food colouring dust by Fractal Colours.
This is a new brand to Cake Bag and we’re super excited to be including them!
It’s so easy to use in a couple of ways. You can simply dust over your finished iced cakes using a fluffy, fanned brush or mix with a little rejuvenator fluid or clear alcohol to create a paint!
Stamping designs and writing onto cakes is on trend at the moment and in this tutorial I’ll show you how to use some plunger cutters to stamp stars onto the surface of rolled out icing.
All you need to do is roll out some ready to roll white fondant icing to about 2mm thickness.
Using a round cookie cutter that is slightly larger than the top of your cupcakes, cut out circles from the rolled out icing.
Grab some plunger cutters. I used stars in 3 sizes (if you’re a regular cake baker like me you’ll most likely have this set of star plunger cutters!)
Press the plunger on the handle down to push the star stamp out from within the cutter and use this to stamp stars in various sizes on the surface of the icing circles.
Place the icing onto sponge cupcake domes and gently smooth down around the dome. Leave to dry out.
Mix the silver dust with a little clear alcohol or rejuvenator fluid to create a paint then fill in the stars.
You can also stamp messages onto the icing too and stamp stars around the edge then paint the designs!
Finally, using a fluffy, fanned paintbrush dipped in the dry dust, sweep over the surface of the icing to make the cupcake toppers even more shimmery!
Pop on top of swirls of buttercream on your cupcakes, serve and enjoy!
These are perfect to serve at your New Years Eve parties to add lot’s of shimmer and sparkle to your buffet tables!
